Hey Fieldwolf,
remember me... :) i would like to thank you again for the invaluable discussion that we had sometime back. since then i have followed your advice - recognized patterns on CR for about a week and then did mgmat sc 4th ed. thoroughly. When i was preparing those sections individually, i got almost every question correct on each section with proper reasoning ,and i prepared notes on for each section. i finished SC today only and started revising notes on CR, RC & SC. my new problem is that i don't have same amount of confidence and i am feeling that i might not able to achieve same hit rate on any of the section.

Did you feel anything like that when you were preparing, how did you cope up or any other advice.

Your advices have been helping me till now and i am sure they will keep guiding me till THE day :)

Hi Fieldwolf,
Even i have followed the same approach for understanding concepts in CR from Bible, SC from Manhattan. My hit ratio is 8/10. Also, solving each question is taking more time than required. My exam date is exactly after a month. I am aiming at 750+ score. How should i Improve my timing and hit ratio. Right now i am practicing questions and reviewing my weak areas.

Thanks,
GMAT-Zenith

Hey!

What is your score and what is your hit rate in each of the sections? How are you doing with the quant part?

i just finished detailed study of each section and now revising my notes. i will give a mock exam this weak. quant is not a problem i get 50 even without studying. my only problem is verbal.

Hi fieldwolf,

Congrats for your score. I have started preparing for GMAT since a week. I am planning to give my exams by the end of August ie., in somewhere around 5 weeks time. With the study plan that u have suggested do u think it is possible for me to prepare within this time frame given the fact that i have just started.

Regards,
Arunima

Hi again :) I am here again to ask you to help me :)

I gave a knewton practice test and scored 730(Q46,V45) but i am *not* satisfied because a) my target is at least 770 b) i scored worst ever on quant as my usual score is Q50. I am happy that i have improved on verbal and a lot of credit goes to you. You have guided me whenever i felt astray on any of my strategies. I have identified mistakes that i made and will be working on them. However, i have few queries before i work on improving myself:

1) Analyzing the results of test, i saw that i got 1 weaken & 1 paradox question wrong. Now, i don't know what this means for me. Earlier when i was scoring 680, too many incorrect weaken questions meant that i needed to improve my strategy for solving weaken question. Please help me understand what these 2 wrong questions mean for me and what should i do to improve.

2) one problem that i successfully identified is that as i score more correct, i get more longer, difficult passages and i took too long (5 min) to read them. which habits should i incorporate to get used to those convoluted passages that i will be encountering on my way to 770

3) On RC questions, irrespective of difficulty level of passage, I tend to move Back-Forth among options. Though i get them correct in the end but i want to stop myself from going Back-Forth because doing so will help me reduce time for answering RC question.

4) I see that although i got almost equal number of incorrect on DS and PS, i generally took more time on DS question (irrespective of correct/incorrect). I mean my average time for DS is greater than average time for PS. any strategy for reducing taking too much time on DS

Thanks !!

Hi fieldwolf,
I have taken the Gmat twice, first I got a 490, and then year later, I got 640(V-34, Q-45). I have been advised by many to take it again. I am now aiming at 740, but have very little time, as I want to catch up for R2 applications(Nov/Dec). I have almost 2+ weeks to prepare. I have been going through Manhattan flash cards and strategies. from where should I practice quant, RC and CR? I am done with OG 11,12, Kaplan Gmatbook,Princeton Review gmat, 1000 SC, half of 1000 CR. Should I do OG 13, considering there is a new IR section as well?Should I also buy verbal review-GMAC?
Strengths-
SC- familiar with all rules, done manhattan SC, OG 11,12, 1000 SC
CR-I can categorise and recognise question type- Goal-plan/ Cause-effect/data etc.
RC-I am mostly fine with social sciences, business related passages
Quant-concepts clear. i have all notes/short cuts required, only need more practice

Weakness
CR-hit rate dwindles between 6/10 to 8/10. either I misinterpret the passage or I am mostly unsure between two answer options. I trued to do LSAT, but found it too discouraging.
RC-I am not good with passages on natural sciences. I take a glance(skim) of the passage->notice shifts and tone-> then read question->look for answer. I didn't practice this section much for last gmat exam.
Quant-slow at calculations, not a fan of probability/ P&C, make silly mistakes, in last exam-time management was shaky.
IR-I am not at all prepared for this section and have not been fond of interpreting data, but I do know that schools are really looking at this score. What should I aim in that case.

Thanks
raga
