I just Beat The GMAT!

congrats on your great score. Did you read the advanced section of the manhattan gmat sentence correction? because i see it is very bulky.please advice me on this. Thanks

xela760 - I agree that most of the mgmat SC was too dense for me. I read through the whole book including the advanced section but didn't really study it because I felt most of the stuff they describe weren't going to be tested on the gmat. But I've heard so many people say this is the one resource that saved their SC score. You may want to get some more opinions on the Powerscore SC. I didn't use that book, but I used their CR book and language was much easier to follow and very relevant to the content tested.

As a fellow 770-er who doesn't post here nearly as much as I should, this is the best of many good points to take from the OP:

you need to find a way to LOVE the GMAT

If someone would pay me to take the test every day, I'd do it. I find it to be an amazingly fun test. If you go in with that attitude, it's easy to stay loose.

I am VERY curious as to how your verval score went from 45 on your first attempt (690 Q41,V45) to V42 on GMAT prep. I am convinced that the Verbal is more drawn out and confusing on the REAL GMAT than on GMATPrep. Or maybe i'm just too familiar with the OG/GMATPrep questions to be able to judge objectively.
I have the seen a complete reverse in my prep. I score 40+ on verbal on GMATPrep and I managed only V36 on the real thing TWICE! last score was (700 Q49, V36)

I do think verbal on the real GMAT is more convoluted and unpredictable. I scored a 46 thinking I did poorly while consistently scoring V42 on practice exams with confidence. Don't know what advice to give you though other than the greater your foundation, the less surprised you'll be in any situation.

I'm stuck at the 690 threshold atm.

Despite what you said about Knewton lacking in regards to quant explanations, I've been considering purchasing it due to the 50 point guarantee they offer--especially considering that a 50 point improvement would put me at a whopping 740.

I have completed the MGMT program (self study) and originally thought that I had made huge strides in my quant, but for some reason I didn't make an improvement on test day (stuck at a Q43). I'm looking at Knewton for some extra CATs and maybe a different approach to studying. After all of the frustration I've experienced thus far (taken GMAT 4 times), I'd most definitely be willing to pay the $690 for Knewton if they'll guarantee that I'll raise my score to a 740. A 740 GMAT score is 30 points higher than my original goal of a 710, so even if I can improve just 20 points (710) and get my money back, it would be just as worth while! But I really need to improve my quant score up from a 43, I guess I need to research Knewton a bit more to see just how strong it's quant expertise is.

your words are inspiring tennis diva I agree...I just got a 620 and I want a score in the mid 600s to late 600s I have to just keep myself motivated and focus the next month and be positive with no distractions. Fix the errors I made in the studying the past 2 months before my GMAT last week.
