I did not beat the GMAT, but I did hit it pretty hard...

I just got back from my GMAT, and I'm a little disappointed with my score. I got a 690 (44Q/41V). I scored a 740 on the GMAT prep last week, and had regularly been scoring 97th percentile verbal or higher. I only scored 92nd percentile verbal on the real GMAT, and the difference between 97th and 92nd percentile verbal can account for upwards of 20 additional points.

My plan is to apply to Harvard, UCLA, UT Austin, and Duke, but now I'm worried that I won't get in, given my score :-(

Dont worry..¨score is decent..work hard on the applications and recos. i am sure you will do it !!

Just keep in Mind, Its the overall profile and not the score.

I agree, GMAT plays a role but its not the only factor.

What about your workex and other achievements??
If they are good than you must give a shot with 690.

I'm not sure whether my work experience is good enough. I have 5+ years working in the scripted television business in Los Angeles, including a 2 year stint on "Will & Grace." The problem is, in the tv industry, you spend years doing "assistant-level" work. That means you copy scripts, answer phones, and do other mundane things... it's just the way it is. You basically wait around for 5-10 years hoping someone will give you a shot to write a show.

I was the valedictorian of my undergrad class with a 3.97 gpa (Syracuse University) and a double major. But I just don't know if 690 will be strong enough this year.

C'mon man. That's a great profile. Working in TV will set you apart from all the other applications and a 3.97 will seal the deal.
