messed up math but pulled a 720

720 [Q47,V42]......

It have been procrastinating about taking the GMAT for years now and i finally took it today. I have been visitng this site and it has helped me a lot during my preparation. I think its only fair if i share my GMAT experience and hopefully someone may benefit from it.

I gave my self a little under 3 months to take the GMAT. I work and hence could not study all the time. Personally in retrrospect i feel 3 months was a little on the longer side. The last couple of weeks were a drain and i could not wait for the exam to get over- which is not the best way to take the GMAT.
So planning the apropriate length of time to study is important so you do not burn out or are underprepared.

TEST DAY Tips:
i cannot stress this enough!! Please Please keep track of time while you work through the GMAT. I have a math background and have been averaging a 49-50 in my mock tests. However, on D day i was so involved n solving i lost track of time and realized midway into Quant that i was not going to finish in time. I breezed thru the section and ended messing it up Q47.
So please learn this from my mistakes. guessing a couple of questions in the middle of your test so that you may finish it in time is a smart idea.

I was demoralized after my sad show in Quant. But i psyched myself during the break to go in and give verbal my best. I managed a good performance, enough to pull up my score. Please do not give up until the fat lady sings!!

Studying materials: i used the official guide 11th edition. This is a must to give you an base.
Manhattan GMATs SC notes really helped me improve my weakness.
Kaplan800 helped me work on CR's and RC's.
For math i studied topic wise to start with and then just practiced.

I hope the above rant helps someone.

I am a little disappointed with my math performance, but am happy i managed a decent score, inspite.
I might take the test again someday - but for now- i fought the beast and lived to tell the tale!!

All the best.
