Hi All,
I gave my GMAT on 23rd November. And the following is the preparation experience that I want to share with all of you.

Background

I am from India. I gave CAT 3 times (Students from this part will understand). I have around 5 years of work ex. (Sounds familiar..huh.:))

Score

720 (Q 50/ V38)

I was really excited, when that magical screen popped up.

Preparation

I benefited a lot from this site. So, I wanted to share my experience, if it helps any one who is preparing for GMAT.

The most important part is to choose the correct books.

I used the following books.

1. OG - 11
2. OG - Verbal
3. OG - Quant
4. Kaplan 800
5. Kaplan Premier
6. MGMAT -SC

1. MGMAT 1 620

3. MGMAT 3 650
4. MGMAT 4 670
5. MGMAT 5 650

I had gone through the various forums on this site and I realized that its difficult to score on Kaplan test. Best judge of ones preparation are the GMAT prep test.

What I want to tell every one here is that your GMAT score can be improved. My weakness was/is verbal. But I guess the GMAT exam is structured in such a way that no way from what back ground you are from, your verbal score can be improved.

If any one has any specific questions, I will be more than happy to answer.

hi...you mentioned your verbal was your weakness. how did you go about improving on it?

was it the timing that was the issue or was it a general understanding of verbal? or was it the exam pressure in the verbal part?

and in verbal were you particularly weak in one specific area - SC or RC or CR?

arpitrai--SC was the weakest of all the three sections. There are around 15 questions related to SC. I use to get around 5 rights in the beginning. At the near of my exam it increased to 10 questions.
MGMAT SC is one book which helped me a lot.

Timing was not a issue for me while I was doing practice test. In the final exam , I was pressed for time for 2-3 questions. I remember I just read them at a frantic pace and marked the answer fronm the options which came first. i.e not analysing all the options...

I plan to apply only in the next year..
I plan to apply mostly to asian and US B schools
Right now, I am in the process of browsing through various rankings available..

hi arihantgmat,

Can you please tell me if do the Times CAT stuff for math will it be sufficient to score 50 or more, i am not very confident about my maths prep although i used to get 50 on kaplan( with 32-33 right) my score drop on GMat prep to 49(with only 25right, i know i made 3-4 silly mistak), but still tell me how to consolidate my MAth??? my concepts are clear but i do get puzzled with DS.

any suggestion what to do??

If you are getting 50 on GMAT with 32-33 right, you are on right track.
Dont get dis appointed with 49 on GMAT prep.
I had made quite a few silly mistakes in GMAT Prep first test. What I realised was the question were not difficult, but just a little tricky..
I mean I got 1-2 Q wrong simply because I didnt read the question properly. Find out if this is the case with you..

I will not recommed Times CAT material for GMAT (If you are talking of the times coaching classes). GMAT Math is different than CAT Math.
So, my suggestion would be do all the math from OG 11 And Quant review from GMAC. Kaplan 800 have some very questions.

And regarding DS, the only thing I can say is practice more DS questions from any GMAT material available.

MGMAT test has some really good and tough quant and DS questions.
