This was my conclusion after probing the updated GMAT Prep from MBA DOT COM and sitting shattered in the night but still pondering over - should my preparation with OG help me bettering my GMAT quant score?

I am afraid the answer would be NO. OG is not reliable source for improving the quant level and attain 'above average' score 47-48. The complicated content of number property type of problems, the word problems demanding swift reaction and hence home coaching made OG useless at some point during recent CATs I was trying. As a person with non-tech background wishing to excel in quant, I have to select the means other than OG.

I have finished all MGMAT math guides and looked into each problem explanation there. I have completed OG 11 word by word and sat for my GMAT Prep. The best score for quant I managed was 43. The GMAT Focus Online Quantitative Diagnostic Tool resulted in my upper ceiling score 39.

So pity my time spent in vane for OG... :(
My knowledge frontiers came to evolve the GMATPill's methods - the credited study means to boost the Verbal competence. I really like their videos, especially for RC, CR and SC. You do check their study methods at https://www.gmatpill.com

I completely agree with your opinion. I have also had a similar feeling when I was preparing. OG doesn't reflect the current real GMAT quant questions. In my opinion, MGMAT does a great job in quants. Although some questions are ridiculously difficult, it does a great job in training for the best. Once you practice hard with MGMAT quants, you will get a feeling that you can tackle any quant question in GMAT and you actually will do!

However, you should practice OG quants after you are done with MGMAT. You will sense questions slightly easier or comfortable (if easier is not the right word here!) and make you feel very confident before the exam.

papgust thanks for your savvied opinion. I will seek more and more agree reply posts from my GMAT fellows running around with their exam cracking ideas.

Guys,

I too had a similar situation & ended up with a low GMAT score due to a low quant score.
My analysis says that OG12 is just not enough for practice, the better option is OG 10.
Quant is dependent a lot on PS , the DS section can be solved once u get proficiency in PS & not vice versa.
Now, compare the number of Quant problems in OG 10 to OG 12. I think it is much much more in the former and I have also found the SC explanations to be better.

after taking test and focusing hard on the OG, most of the problems on the test were worded differently

I don't think the OG is the bible when it comes to quants

so how was your test experience, did you crack the GMAT?
