Just gave GMAT and scored 740 (Q49, V44). As I relied solely on BeatTheGmat notes and OG, I though I must share the lessons learned.
AWA.
1. It is important that you actually practice a few full length argument analysis/ issue analysis.
2. Resposne to argument anaylis follows a familiar pattern but Issue analysis requires more practice.
3. Argument analysis questions have typical GMAT kind assumptions. If you practice 4 or 5 cases, you will not even have to spend time preparing your response.
4. Alway leave 5 minutes for editing at the end.
Quant
1. GMAT loves prime numbers. If you cant get started on a number property question, try breaking the number into prime factors.
2. If you are good in quant, time available should not be an issue. In fact, I had more than 8 minutes left.
3.May be I just got lucky, but the questions I got on permutation & combination and probability were pretty easy, unlike the ones normally discussed in study circles.
4.Its important to be in habit of solving questions. So try solving as many questions as possible in the last week or two.
5. Memorize different responses, based on which statement(s) is (are) correct, for data sufficiency.
6. Practicing regularly is more important than keep looking for "different" types of questions.
Verbal
1. Devote maximum time to Sentence Correction. OG questions are more than sufficient for practice
2. Reading Comprehension questions can be real pain. Mainly because you tend to loose your concentration by the time you reach verbal section. Skimming technique, recommended by all and sundery, may not work in that scenario. Key here is practicing different types RC questions.
3. Almost all SC questions have more than 1 clue to the right answer. So dont panic if you are not able to choose between alternate choice for clue1.
General
1. 30-45 days of preparation is sufficient. Do not stretch it beyond this, you may loose focus.
2. Solve at least 5 questions from each section everyday.
3. Schedule an exam date. Nothing motiovates like a deadline.
4. GMAT exam is all about keeping your concentration for 4 hours.
