I gave my GMAT on the 1st Nov'11 and got a 730(Q49/V40).
I started my preparation in July and had initially planned to give the exam in September. However, due to tight work schedule, i finally gave it in November.Below are the books I referred to and the study pattern I followed.
Quant : OG
SC : MGMAT SC (Very helpful, do not forget to read the advanced Section), OG
CR: Powerscore CR Bible, OG
RC : OG , LSAT tests.
AWA: myohmy template on this site
I gave my first GMATPREP Exam in September and got a 630 and realised i was good at PS,CR,RC but sucked at DS and SC. I decided to put in more work on these 2 subjects.i also realised that i make mistakes at the end of the test
DS: I solved about 150-200 questions and solved 50 questions on a stretch. This helped me to improve my endurance and also realised that you tend to get similar questions in terms of logic.
SC : I read the MGMAT again ( Concentrating on the advanced section) and solved the OG questions.
I gave my GMATPREP 2 in October and got a 680 and realised that i had underestimated RC and CR and was making a lot of mistakes especially in CR. I solved the few LSAT tests and that enabled me to get a get a better grip on CR.
WEEK before the Exam
I brushed up the concepts and idioms and gave the Kaplan test. I found it very difficult and managed only a 650.
The real deal
The Analysis of argument was very easy and with the help of the template, I finished it with ease. However, the essay question was boring and I found it very difficult to come up with concrete examples to justify my point.
The quant section began well and i found myself answering the first 5 questions with ease. Then i got about 10-11 difficult questions with a lot of Coodinate Geometry and inequalities. I spent a considerable amount of time on these questions and as a result missed 2 questions at the end.
I was very disappointed but i hoped to at least do well on the verbal section. The Verbal section was easy barring a few CR questions and 1 passage. However I finished the section with about 2 minutes to spare.
I thought i had done well in the verbal section but because of my poor performance in the quant section , i would get a score in the range 650-690 but was very happy when the score turned out to be 730.
The coming two months are going to be difficult in terms of essays and getting other details. But at least the GMAT is out of the way.
Hope you find this useful.
Best of luck in advance.
