Hi All,
In the below link there is a discussion about "such as" Vs "the such as"
https://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/the ... t1161.html
On example is as given below:
Correct: I never read this book, but I read other books on the shelf, such as X and Y.
- Incorrect: I never read this book, but I read "the" other books on the shelf, such as X and Y.
The reason for "the" to be incorrect as per Manhattan people is as below. Can someone please help me understand in a bit more detail what does Manhtattan people meant to say here.
======================================
"When you say "THE other" you imply one of two things: either certain other things (eg books) that you've previously specified (which we haven't in this case) or ALL other things of that type, which is also not what's going on here."
=============================================
Thanks
