740... Q51/V 38

by mohitsharda » Thu Oct 01, 2009 2:32 am
Gave my GMAT today. Don't know what to say or how to interpret the score.
Am pretty good at quant and expected this. Verbal has always been my weakness and no wonder, i did not do too well on that section. The score is pretty unbalanced. Had 760 and 770 on GMATprep, so was actually expected something better.

I think I might be able to improve the verbal score if I give another try. I am aiming for the top 5 MBA programs, so any advice on the same will be very helpful. Is this good enough or do I need to improve it?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is any need to retake especially if your AWA is >= 5.

Do NOT retake. you are above 80%ile in verbal so it will look very bad to adcoms EVEN if you improve your verbal score dramatically. Enjoy your success and work on apps.

^^ ditto! The top schools look for a 700+ overall score with a high quant score. This is because there are a few rigorous quant programs that you will have to take up. As far as the verbal is concerned, the adcoms understand that for many international students, English might not be their first language.

So, my advice would be to focus on the rest of the app and forget about the GMAT; the score you've got will definitely make you a candidate for any b-school. It's your essays and recos that will make or break.

All the best!

Agreed with the members on this thread. Don't retake! A 38 in Verbal is still very strong, it's time to focus on your apps.

Look forward to hearing about your progress in our MBA app sections on this forum. :)

Mohit,

I have been hearing a lot tha quant is getting more difficult, well you scored a perfec 51, but do you really feel that Quant is getting tough.

How would you compare GMAT Prep with the actual test?

Cheers and great score btw.

Hey Vineet,

Thanks.
I did not have any difficulties in maths section. In fact finished it with more than 20 minutes to spare.

But let me tell u something, I dont know about your background so dont take this as a signal that quant is easy.
I am an engineer and have blessed with very good quant skills... been good in maths throughout my life... so definitely GMAT was not difficult
To tell you the truth, I did not prepare to much for the quant section as well...So, suit yourself... If you are confident in quant, then i dont think its gonna be a problem...

Cheers...

Verbal Verbal and Verbal is the key!

by vivecan2005 » Sat Oct 10, 2009 5:32 pm
Verbal Verbal and only Verbal (assuming that mostly people are good in quant) is the key to grind this GMAT! To achieve 760+ Verbal is necessary.
