The federal reserve board's reduction of interest rates on loans to financial institutions is both an acknowledgment of the past and an effort to influence their
future direction.

a. same
b. bad fit
c. reduction of interest rates on loans to financial institutions both acknowledge past economic trends and attempt
d. bad fit
e. bad fit

I dont see how C is wrong - given that a is best choice.

I dont see how C is wrong - given that a is best choice.
(c) is wrong because of subject-verb disagreement.

The "reduction" is a singular noun (we want to ignore everything after the "of" for the purposes of subject-verb agreement). Accordingly, the sentence should read:

"The reduction acknowledges... and attempts..."

hi
i want to just ask whether this question is itself correct.."to influence their
future direction" ,their stands for board.however board is singular,can u pls explain this ambiguity.
