Hi all,

Could you please explain how we can solve the below question.
If two lines are intersecting at point (10,27) and equation of one line is y=3x-3
What is the equation of another line.

a) y=2.1x +5
b) y= 2.3x+4
c) y=3.2x-4
d) y=2.6x+5
e) None

IMO B

Best way to solve fast and sure correctly is to plug in the point (10,27) in the options as value of x and y each.
Only B satisfies.
If the problem is Easy Respect it, if the problem is tough Attack it

Hi Shovan,

thanks for the answer.Actually the question posted by me sounds more like"could be possible" in GMAT type questions.
If it would be "must be true always" then I guess answer should be "Cannot Determine".Am I right in my understanding?
Because then there could be many equations satisfied by the coordinates of intersection point(10,27) .
please share ur opinion.

You are right. Through one point, any number of lines can be drawn. Question should definitely state, which of the following could be the equation of the other line?
But, you would never get ambiguity in GMAT qns. The question will be clear on its terms.
I didnt see any problem going to a cannot be determined stage.
