bakery sells rye bread

A certain bakery sells rye bread in 16-ounce loaves and 24-ounce loaves, and all loaves of the same size sell for the same price per loaf regardless of the number of loaves purchased. What is the price of a 24-ounce loaf of rye bread in this bakery?
(1) The total price of a 16-ounce loaf and a 24-ounce loaf of this bread is $2.40.
(2) The total price of two 16-ounce loaves and one 24-ounce loaf of this bread is $3.40.


can someone plz explain the question..not sure what this mean exactly "all loaves of the same size sell for the same price per loaf regardless of the number of loaves purchased."

Let x be the price of 16-ounce loaves and y be the price of 24 ounce loaves

St.1) x+y = 2.40 ======notsuff..
St.2) 2x+y =3.40 =====not suff.
combined : (2x+y) - (x+y) = 3.40 -2.40 =1 --> x=1
y= 1.40 suff. Ans C

Let x be the price of 16-ounce loaves and y be the price of 24 ounce loaves.
Considering statement 1:- x + y =$2.40
St 2:- 2x + y = $3.40
Taking both together,
Subtracting st 1 from st ,we get y=$1
Hence,x=$1.40

Let me explain this in detail:-
If you sell 4 loaves,price per loaf of per 24 ounce loaf is $1.
If you sell 10 loaves,still price of per 4 ounce loaf is $1.
If you sell 100 loaves,still price of per 4 ounce loaf is $1.

Basically,this is not a wholesale market where price drops when you buy things in large quantites.
