710 woohoo!

by bunty99 » Fri Dec 23, 2011 5:37 am
I took my GMAT today and got a score of 710 (Q47, V40), which was completely unexpected. After looking at the first math question, I was thinking to myself, I think I'm gonna have to retake this test. The second question didn't exactly instill more confidence since I didn't know how to solve both questions. I thought I would completely flop the math section and was so tempted to cancel my score, but I'm glad I didn't. My weakest component was sentence correction, but surprisingly the verbal questions were relatively easy compared to what I expected them to be.

I scored 510 on my first mock test, then just before today's exam, I did another, scoring 640. So, a 710 definitely came as a surprise. In case you were wondering why I never did more practice tests was because time was never an issue for me. I knew I could complete the questions within the given time limit. It was just an issue of whether they were going to be correct or not. I had more than 15 mins to spare in my verbal section. Math I did use the full 75 mins cause I had troubles with many questions.

I used 1 month for my prep. Just did every question in the official guide as my preparation. At least it was for me--one thing I've noticed about the GMAT is it's all about pattern recognition. The same concepts just keep appearing over and over again, and after a while, it's all about spotting the pattern.

Anyhow, just wanted to share the joy in achieving my target score of >700 :). Couldn't have asked for a better Christmas present.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Thanks for the wishes, bunty99! That's a great score improvement. I've heard it from many people: the GMAT does rely heavily on patterns :)

All the best and congrats on having another reason to celebrate (besides the holidays hehe)!
