Snubbed by the bug, once again!

by PrernaK » Wed Oct 05, 2011 1:06 pm
Hello there! I have been on this forum for a few months now (passive member at that), and have mostly resorted to reading the posts and skimming through the stuff here in times of stress, anxiety and tension. I particularly feel a boost of positive energy when I read how people finally managed to crack the score they hoped for, and this has in a way, played a role in keeping my morale up.

Here's the thing - I just wrapped up the test (SECOND ATTEMPT), and scored a 630 (Q-39. V-38) (dammit!). Now, I attempted it the first time around a month back and scored 610 (Q-42. V-32). Now, my quant scores across all practice tests have usually hovered around 42 but verbal scores kept fluctuating without any visible trend. So essentially, verbal was stressing me out and I knew I needed to up the ante if I needed to improve my score. So, while I focused on the verbal a little more, I still practised maths. I was fairly confident of scoring a 42+ in quant and wanted to make sure I didn't fumble on verbal (I kinda spaced out the last time in the verbal section). While I was writing the Quant, I felt like the whole section was full of geometry and I kinda lost pace post the 8th question. There were some fumbles that ate up my time, didn't process in my brain etc. and eventually I had under 4 minutes left to finish the last 5 questions, so I guessed (yikes!). Verbal went pretty smoothly and my pacing was per my plan.

Here's the deal - I am exhausted and don't think I have the energy to retake this exam a 3rd time. I have 3+ years of work experience in Public Relations with some iconic brands and exciting work to boast of. I have already missed the R1 deadlines, and I dont know if I I'll make it to R2 but I really want to apply now. I cannot build up any more energy for this darn exam again. I aim to compensate for this not-so-amazing score with my essays & resume.

I'd really like to and (hope to) hear from you guys on this, and get your respective thoughts/views/opinions/suggestions.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear about your bouts with the GMAT. I was in your position too...twice taken the exam and exhausted. But I took it a third time and am glad I did. Now, the caveat is that I don't plan on applying until the Fall of 2012, so my only excuse not to take it again was laziness (i.e. I didn't have to choose between essays and GMAT prep for this fall).

Best of luck whatever you decide...here's my post: https://www.beatthegmat.com/gmat-roller- ... 91714.html

Thank you for your message. I did go through your post, and I agree totally with the bit on Quant, and your practice tests experience is identical to mine...Didn't go beyond 660 on any of them...But better sense has prevailed, and I am going to retake the exam sometime in December. I will by then miss most deadlines (sans a few) but I have made my peace with applying to a majority of colleges next year. So, hopefully, I will be lucky the third time around like you :)
