I appeared for GMAT last week and managed to score only 570 (Q 44, V 26). I was scoring well on my practice tests. Here are my practice tests scores:
GMAT 1 - 680 (Q 49, V 32)
GMAT 2 - 670 (Q 47, V 35)
GMAT 1 Reloaded - 730 (Q 50, V 40)
GMAT 2 Reloaded - 740 (Q 50, V 41)
MGMAT 1 - 660 (Q 45, V 32)
MGMAT 2 - 680 (Q 47, V 34)
MGMAT 3 - 650 (Q 45, V 31)
I was not targeting for 750, my aim was to reach 700 anything above would have been a bonus. To be honest, during the verbal section I knew I had lost it because I spent too much time on the first 20 questions and after that I got a brutal RC, which was at least 4 paragraphs long and it took me another 10 minutes to solve that. Finally, I was left with 15 questions and appx 18 - 19 minutes.
I think the real difference in the GMAT Prep and actual GMAT is the verbal section. SC were very tricky, most of the SC's had two extremely close options and I had to spend extra time in figuring out the correct option.
Another daunting task was RC's. On the GMAT Prep I used to get very short RC's but on the actual GMAT the length of the passage kept on increasing. Before the exam, I read on one post where Ron suggested that try to do SC under a minute. I realized how important the suggestion was on the actual GMAT exam.
I am down but not out. I'll have another go at the GMAT......
