It all depends on how you pitch that time "away" from the real world in your essays. If you can think of a good story which illustrates key learnings or insight you gained, even insight into yourself and your career, and this last year of working in marketing demonstrates the "new you" with achievements and success, then it shouldn't hurt you. Especially if you can convince the committees that you are bringing perspecitve and real value to the table for your classmates that is unique. your big GMAt score will help substantiate your claim to be ready for b-school, but developing your story will be critical.
