Hey Anee, the first thing I can say to you is that you're not alone. Not doing well on your first exam is perfectly normal and a lot of people, including myself, have rebounded from it and done well afterwards. It seems like you already have a plan set in motion and you're well on your way to knocking it out the second time. I would certainly encourage you to focus on your weaknesses while still reviewing some of the basic material that you know for your next month of preparation. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Good Luck!

Hello,

i will tell u my story. I got 560 (Q 48, v 20 and awa 5.0) in my first attempt on 1st sept. i got such a low score in verbal becasue at the begining of the test itself my mind was overwhelmed and tired. After the exam i couldn't remember what was the ques pattern. In nut shell i couldn't remember anything after exam. i was just reading the ques and marking the ans, thinking i am doing good.

i realised after exam that my mind was completely tierd during the verbal section.
Kept on delaying the exam for the second time. Didn't prepare much during the last 3 months. Again took the exam on 7th dec and got 650 ( quant - 49 and V 30, awa - 4.5)

During second attempt i was in full control till the 20 - 21st ques in verbal. i was getting good ques. getting the ques in similar pattern as if you are doing the section well. even the 20 - 21 st ques was a full undelined SC ques. After that mind was became overwhelmed by the amount of reading involved. Again i dont remember what was happening. i was just reading the ques and marking the ans. Tried to concentrate hard. started reading ques twice thrice but in vain. I feel when u start mumbling you are only reading the ques and not solving it. In those circumstances you can solve only SC ques. AS you have to spot the error but RC and CR looks extemely hard as you have to comprehend them.
I would suggest start solving ques within stipulated time frame. SC < 1.5 min, RC and CR 2min per question. Solve as many verbal test as possible and try to figure out why u r making mistakes. is it timing or u dont know the concept. I feel to do well in GMAT timing is the most imp thing. you should be able to ans a ques correctly in given time. if u can't then how many books u read, how many ques u solve it is waste. You should train ur mind in such a way that it should remain active for 4 hr. You can read and comprehend till the last 41 ques.it is true that u will miss few ques. you are bound to make few mistakes as GMAT is an adaptive test.

i got stuck in the 4th ques in quant so i marked it blindly after spending 3 -4 mins. After that i was never stuck in any ques. i was confused in 2 -3 DS ques later on but i din't waste too much time. i made an educated guess and moved on. When u r not stuck in any ques.if u r not banging ur head on any one particular ques in exam then u can save ur energy. If u r not able to solve a ques in 2 min then it is most likely that at that moment u wont be able to solve that ques in another 5 min too.

Anyway i will give a damn try at this score. if i dont get the college on my choice i will write GMAT exam once again. I will again say GMAT is not rocket science. People who get above 700 are not Einstein or Newton. you need to pracice in right direction condition apllied u know ur weakness.

Identical score & story....only difference...u have a better verbal score than mine(V : 20, Q : 48)...I was also keen on taking the GMAT this month but postponing the date bcos admission for FALL 2011 is out of question....I too felt lethargic going through the RC section...
