Got 720 (Q49, V40, AWA5.0)

I took the GMAT on Monday and got a 720.

This was my second attempt. At the first attempt, in July, I got a 700. I was shooting for 750 this time, but didn't succeed. I don't think I'm gonna retake it, though. I just want to thank all the people whose stories in this forum inspired me, and I want to thank BTG for the excellent environment.

Materials used on first attempt:
- OG 12
- Kaplan GMAT Premier
- Kaplan Math Workbook
- Kaplan GMAT 800

Practice test results:
GMAT Prep1 680
Kaplan CAT1 660
Kaplan CAT2 690
Kaplan CAT3 690
Kaplan CAT4 720
Kaplan CAT5 710
GMAT Prep2 710
Kaplan CAT6 760

After my first attempt, I took almost 2 months off. Then I decided to give it a second shot. I studies for 6 weeks and retook it.

Materials used on second attempt:
- OG 12
- Manhattan Math Collection
- SC Bible
- CR Bible

Practice test results:
MCAT1 640
MCAT2 710
MCAT3 690
GMAT Prep1 750 (50+40)
GMAT Prep2 730 (50+38)

Congrats on the score!! 720 is a great score, I think at this point your application and experience matters more than getting the 750.

Can you post your first score split? Just wondering what you had to improve.

Also, how did you manage to get all the quant books from MGMAT done in less than 6 weeks?? It took me 2 months to do that (work committments, and verbal portion of MGMAT too).

Thanks for the kind words!

I got 48 in Q and a 37 in V in the first try and my AWA score was 4.5.

My main focus for the second exam preparation was on Number Properties and Inequalities in Q and SC in V.

Manhattan Math books are the best. Especially their Number Properties and Inequalities. They rock!

Their SC book is good, too. For SC I also recommend the SC Bible. It really helped me.

Nice. Can you talk a little bit in detaill how you studied the books?

(hrs per day working on books, chapters per week, referring to OG probs etc..)

Sure! Like you, I had work commitments, too. So, I normally studied for 3-4 hours on weekday nights and 7-8 hours daily on weekends.

The way I studied the Manhattan books was that I studied a chapter and then solved the end of chapter exercises. On average, I spent 2 hours per chapter. I also made notes of the new things that I learned and marked them in the book. (This was actually quite helpful when I was reviewing!) I never did OG problems chapter by chapter.

One thing that I really found necessary in Q was keeping your mind fresh on the materials. In other words, make sure that you don't get away from them for more than 7-10 days. So, my suggestion is to read the books once or twice and then review them every other week.
