GMATPrep - Where are the explanations...

by AleksandrM » Sun May 11, 2008 12:56 pm
Today, I took the GMATPrep CAT for the first time. I was expecting to review the questions I got wrong and see explanations about how to solve them. However, there were none! :x

I went to the question review section and hit Review All, there was no button to show me Answer Explanation (which is allegedly supposed to be there). I then hit Review Incorrect.. same result! What the hell?!?!

I downloaded this exam from mba.com about a week ago. If anyone has any suggestions or illucidations, I would certainly like to hear them.

Sorry, but there are no explanations for questions on GMAT prep or Power prep (the test you downloaded from MBA.com). You can only see the status of the questions i.e. whether they are right or wrong. For explanations you post the questions on the forum :P

That's odd. I have seen people print screens of power prep questions along with explanations provided by along with the software.

PowerPrep does contain answer explanations. Furthermore, as I have already stated above, GMATPrep tutorial explicitly states that there is supposed to be a button when you enter the review screen. Something like a "? Explanation" button, but it is not included in the software I downloaded. Maybe they were going to include it and decided not to, but forgot to remove it from the tutorial. However, that still does not explain how others post the "gmac" explanation to test questions.

First off, the obvious question. Are you sure you are using Powerprep and not something else?

Second, you can get explanations from the Powerprep software. However, you have to review the test immediately after you finish it. You cannot end the test, close the application, and then come back to it.

A screen will ask you to Proceed or to Review.

If you click Proceed, you exit the test. You can come back and see what answers you entered and what the correct answers were, but you do not get the explanations.

If you click Review, you can select specific questions to look at in each section. You see the question, the answers choices, and your answer. The button that says "Correct Explain" will explain the answer to you. Then on that new screen you have an "other explain" button that tells you why those answers were wrong. Again, after you are finished and you exit the test that's it. You can't get the explanations back. So screen print them if you want to refer back to them or copy them down.

Hope this helps.

gecko,

Thanks, but as I said above, I WAS able to review the questions in powerpep. I was NOT able to do so in the GMATPrep, though I did not exit the test and went on to review the material immediately after finishing the test.

Sorry about that AleksandrM. I guess I was more confirming what you said than anything else.

From what I have seen, you do not get explanations with the GMATprep software. Where was it that you read that you did?

The only explanations that you get are on the practice section/review questions..there you hava 15 questions + explanations...
I know..I was upset too..what works for me with the test exam is to google them, I always find answers in one of the forums...GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey maya, that is a good suggestion. :D I didn't even think about googling the problems. I just googled 4 problems, and found pretty good explanations to all of them on various GMAT forums. Thanks.
