So I just wrote my GMAT and here is the scoop:
Total 710 (92nd)
Verbal 45 (98th)
Quantitative 42 (63rd)
Why is my total over 700 when I messed up so bad on my quantitative? How big of a deal is the difference between my V and Q?
Obviously my verbal was ok, but wouldn't it be better to have closer V and Q and a lower overall score?
Help! I don't understand my score...

Your overall score can still be high since you did very well on the verbal portion of your exam. As for how the difference between your verbal and quant scores may impact you, it depends on what programs you're thinking about applying for. I'd suggest researching the schools you're interested in to determine how heavily they weigh each section.
Congratulations on a great overall score, however! Good luck!
