I'm NOT sure WHO BEAT WHO HERE! 650

by clinter04 » Tue Mar 10, 2009 8:22 pm
I took the test and scored a 650. Don't have my Q or V with me so I'll write them later in a debrief. I had been scoring 550-710. I really thought I would hit the higher end of my range. My confidence was high and I studied hard. I took a few different GMAT Prep CAT Exams from various locations but noticed a large variation in my scores with them. What has everyone else used for the Cat Practice Tests? Could someone throw me some help here. I was very unsure what to expect after having such a large variation in my scores. I am not totally upset with my score, I just thought I would be higher. THanks so much for everyone's help on here too. I will write a debrief soon. I am going to take the test again for sure so any sites with High Qulaity Practice Tests would be So much Appreciated! Thanks!!!! BEST OF LUCK. ITS NOT AS BAD AS I THOUGH!

650, I call it on the wall score.
not a bad score, but not good enough in competitive scenarios.

Check the sticky thread in the GMAT Strategy forum about Various CAT practice test.

Also to note: GMATPrep CAT tests can give us idea of probable real score.

I will not agree with aim-wsc here. I think GMAT is over rated.

650+Strong Application will be sufficient even in competitive situations. If I were you, I would not worry about GMAT anymore and pour all my energy in the rest of the application.

Good luck!

Clinter,
First of all 650 is a pretty good score. Congrats!

If u r trying for a top 20 school then give the GMAT again and get above 700 and I am sure u can. There are lots of theories/formulas floating around for eg good application + decent gmat score = top 20 school or top 40 school and so on.

If the formula above is supposedly true then definitely

good application + great gmat score(700 +) => top 20 school

The strong application and ur individuality/what u bring to the table doesn't change dramatically i.e. they are pretty much constants. Why take a chance with the gmat score which can change based on how well u do on that day? If u have the time and u r in no hurry to start ur MBA immediately then go get a score above 700 which u can(u hv got 650 so polishing up on a few things here and there will get u there). There must be a reason why folks aim for a 700+ score.

It all depends on what u want to do and how soon u r looking in to starting your MBA. Is there a specific school/program that u have dreamt of and what is the cut off GMAT score for that school? What are ur priorities?

In the meantime I would present a strong application with this 650 score and see what happens. U can also utilize the Ask an MBA Admissions Consultant section of this forum and see what the admission experts have to say.

Also be in touch with the GMAT prep just in case u need to retake.

Just my 2 cents..... Wish u the very best!!!

Regards,
Cramya
