770 - ?

by astroboy » Sat Oct 11, 2008 9:30 pm
Hi,
Just scored a 770(99%) on the GMAT. (Quant - 51, 99%, Verbal - 44, 97%)
I only gave the PowerPrep I test, read the Fountainhead and gave the exam. No other preparation(promise!). The sort of language used in Fountainhead got me into the swing of English that the GMAT uses, and Quant isn't a problem since I'm an second year engineering student at an IIT.(Yes, I'm 18!)

I think Verbal could've been better, and 800 was not too far away. Had to answer 25 verbal questions in the last 30 minutes...

Thanks!
I heard the GMAT score doesn't make a difference once it's beyond a certain level(750 - ?), unless of course you've got a 790 or a 800. I'm not too happy I missed that boat :(

Oh boy !! such a pathetic score ?? This will lead you nowhere !! Your quant score seems OK but verbal 44 is too bad !!

If you expect to receive such replies, I am sorry. You have scored much higher than most of us here score :) So be happy with your score.

You can go places with your score. Focus on your studies now :) Build your profile.

P.S. GMAT is not everything. People from IIT who scored 800 have got rejects from Harvard/Stanford.

Congrats on a great score.
But I am not sure what were you trying to prove.
You got nothing to give to the forum and neither is your story any inspiration to anyone. And to top it all you are not even satisfied with your score.
I guess you are not seeking any advice as well. So there is no point in posting your stuff.
IMO You got a great score without slogging hard for it. Great well done.
And I believe that if you are this talented you got nothing to worry about, besides you already have time on your side to build a profile that will match up to your score.

Still you can shoot for 800 and that would be really awesome.
You can aslo score higher in Quants since you are from IIT. I am from one and have seen people getting that kind of score.
Having said anything or everything I agree with Amitdgr that 800 people also got rejects from top institutes. So focus on other aspects of your application if at all you intend to go for an MBA.

I got 710 in the Powerprep I test. I gave it around 2 months before the exam.

Since you are in school at the moment so that explains why you have such a high GMAT score with minimal preparation. It is a good idea to give GMAT while in school so that your academic abilities are in good shape. Once you step out onto the job the xcore goes down drastically.
