If w, x, y, and z are the digits of the four-digit number N, a positive integer, what is the remainder
when N is divided by 9?

1) w + x + y + z = 13
2) N + 5 is divisible by 9

Hi,

1 is sufficient ... Remainder is 4.

2 is sufficient ... Remainder is 4 ... Answer is D ...

Am I missing something ...

From statment 1 ,sum is 13

It can be like 1138,1237...

For all this the remainder will be 4.

From stmt 2, N+5 is divided by 9.

N can be like 1129,1138......

For all this the remainder will be 4.

So D

(w + x + y + z)%9=4...for any number the reminder when it is divided by 9 is same as that of the sum of its digits.hence the remainder when N is divided by 9 is 4..sufficient

From 2

if N+5 is divisible by 9, N will have reminder -5 when divided by 9 or the remainder when N is divided by 9 is (9-5)=4..sufficient
