Exam in 5 days

by MohitK » Sat Nov 19, 2011 6:05 am
I have my GMAT test in 5 days. Any suggestions? I am under stress, since I have been preparing for it for almost 2.5 months. The main issue is, when I am taking my mock tests, I am forgetting the concepts which makes me totally freaked out during the exam and my whole score gets affected. Hence unable to know where I stand in terms of final score on the test day.

On top of it, someone stole my books (OG 12, Nova Quant and Manhattan SC) and my notes registers at public library where I was going for past 2 months for GMAT prep. It wasn't a very good day yesterday.

Need expert advise.

I am sorry to hear about having your materials stolen. Are so many people taking the GMAT these days?

You have only 5 days to go -- 4 days now? You need to take one more practice test if possible as soon as possible. You need to relax and try to let things happen for you and see if you can get through these problems.

It is too bad that you do not have 7 days before the test because you cannot postpone the exam without forfeiting the entire fee. In which case you might feel that you want to go ahead and take the test as scheduled.

Try to recreate your notes from your memory. This will actually be VERY VERY helpful. You will see what you actually have committed to memory. This could turn out to be a blessing. Don't worry about recreating the idioms and so forth, concentrate on your methods, what do you do when you see that you have a critical reasoning problem? What are the steps that you take. Concentrate on how you approach the questions and visualize your success.

As for your other materials, you only have five days lest and you likely have gotten most of what you will get from those. Take a practice test, read some BTG articles on relaxing, do some practice problems. The materials is gone so you will need to do what you can.

One more thing about forgetting the formulas. You do get a 4 minute period before the AWA called a "tutorial" where they teach you to click the mouse and work the computer. You do not need to pay attention to this and instead can use your 4 minutes to write - on your yellow note boards - quant formulas that you think you might forget. The irony is that if you write them down you will likely not forget them.

Hope that helps!

Thanks David! This will surely help. I would not have postponed my dates anyway, since I returned to my studies recently after 8 years of working and wanted to experience the live GMAT test environment. I am sure, I will do well in my next attempt. I am going to take 2 more mock tests, tomorrow and day after before going for the final one on Thursday.

Cheers!

Mohit

I can very well understand your anxiety as i am going through the same(i am also taking GMAT on thursday). But that is what GMAT does to you, doesn't it.I guess you are screwing up your mock CATs because the anxiety is getting the better out of you.So you need to stop worrying too much about the exam and relax a bit.I have taken my last mock CAT on this sunday and do not plan to take any more.I am also not studying too much to avoid any unneccessary thing that can bother me at this stage.I am just waiting for the D-Day now.I know i can do it and so can you.As far as your lost material is concerned i feel it hardly matters at this stage. So lets avoid any negative feeling which may hamper our performance and put out the best foot forward on the D-Day.

Best of luck!!!
