I have 5.5 years of experience. My current job demands more than 12 hours of work per day. Most of the time I am working on weekends also. I took GMAT last Oct and scored a miserable 640. With the amount of work pressure I don't think I will be able to concentrate and get a respectable score.
I am thinking to quit and study for 3 months , take GMAT and then search for another job.
Can this break have an adverse effect to my MBA application ?

Definitely yes. You have to convince the adcom as to why you took a break. If you are planning for a switch, do so immediately to a less work demanding job and then prepare for GMAT. Moreover if you prepare for the exam separately, it shows you are incapable of time management.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

Is weekend work your resposibility or your intitiative ? If possible, try not to work on weekends. Yes GMAT is a lot of work, but if you want you can really pull 1 hour on weekdays and 5-6 hours on weekends - making a total of 10 hours per week. A lot of GMAT Prep like reading newspapers can be done at work. In a 6-8 month period you can study 240 - 300 hours which is good enough to get 720+ (given your previous score). The key is to make GMAT a part of the routine - so it feels effortless.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Weekend job is not my initiative. And studying while working is also not possible.
Well, but you all have answered my question. Either I look for a new job which allows me to work towards my goal .
Or time manage in the present one.
