So frustrated!!!!!!! - 690 Q44 V41

I JUST finished my second attempt (were talking 30 minutes ago) and I raised my quant score a bit, which was the goal..... But the verbal I could kick myself for!

I consistently get 44's and 45's on the verbal section in practice, and got a 42 on my last attempt, so I made myself go really slow to make sure I got a high verbal score to bring my total to 700+... (Since math isn't going to get me there)

AND you can guess what happened next.... I'm getting consistently difficult questions through the whole verbal section so I know I'm doing well, and then with just a few seconds left on the last questions I took a millisecond too long to "click" and the test timed out. No answer on the last question!!! :(

I'm sure this brought my verbal score down, and not that I can do anything about it now, but does anyone have any idea how much your score is affected by failing to answer the last question???

Nevermind, I just found the answer to my question. Such a bummer, I would have had that 7 handle at the least. Anyway, for others who are curious, here is the link:

Sorry about your result. Timing on verbal can definitely be tricky, especially after the questions start getting hard.

I personally had to speed up a bit because I was getting these ridiculous reading comp questions that took forever to read.

Thanks :) The reading comp has always been my strongest section, although I definitely got a long difficult one towards the end. Curiously, on both attempts I got a scary easy reading comp passage in the middle. For me, I think I dabbled a little too long on some sentence correction questions, which are my worst in verbal section and seemed to be very abundant this time around.

I am tempted to take it again, but I honestly think that 44 is the best I can do in Quant, and I think I had a few lucky guesses to get there, so I don't want to see that score go down again, even if I nab some more points in verbal. Anyone have any advice as to how the adcoms would view a decrease in score for the third time? Particularly in Quant?

I find it ridiculous that the quant score should count so much for someone who is already in finance, on the buyside, but I have been told numerous times that it does. Wish I were an engineer :(

I have read somewhere at MGMAT site that unanswered question may cause the decrease of overall score by as much as 8 points in the percentile rank.

I wouldn't be surprised. I really felt like I was killing it in the verbal section, and I often score in the 99% range. I'm so tempted to test again in January.....

My suggestion - If you think you can increase your overall score by 30-40 points, then its worth taking the exam again. Otherwise, I feel that you should just move on with apps. Because, the adcoms view the scores 690 and 700 in the same range. It is not that a 700 will ensure you a place in a B-school and a 690 will reject you. It is we who think that getting into a 700 mark definitely places us in the radar.
So, like i said, if you are confident that you can get to a 720+ in the next attempt, then just go for it. Just my 2 cents.
