One month left and...

by timedout » Sat Nov 29, 2008 12:55 am
.. just started my 4 days back.

Gave my kaplag diagnostic test with following results:
Overall - 7 wrong of 31
Quant:
DS - 1/7
PS - 4/11

Verbal:
CR: 0/7
RC: 1/7
SC: 1/7

Obviously, my verbal is pretty good, and quant needs some work (3 of the 5 worng were stupid errors).

Aiming for a 720+ score.

My overall strategy for the same is:
- Max out verbal
- Stretch quant as much

i have Kaplan premier; OG 11 with me and the 1000SC's

What should i do to achieve my goal. Keeping in mind 29th Dec is the test date.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I was told during my studies something that makes a lot of sense: focus on your strengths first. This makes sense because your strengths are your strengths for a reason and your weaknesses follow the same principle. In other words, things that fall under your strengths come more naturally so picking the low hanging fruit should be one of your goals.

In your case, you are lucky to have verbal as your strong point as the opposite is usually the case. Verbal also has a much stronger weighting on your score than quant. Combine this fact with the principle above and my suggestion is exactly what you mentioned: max out verbal.

The difficulty is knowing when you've hit your max and plateau; when you have a strong command already, it's very hard to get even stronger. As soon as you feel you've learned as much as you can in verbal you should switch to focus on quant - only you can decide when to make this switch.

Having said that, do not neglect quant completely as there is and always will be two halves to the test.

MGMAT SC is the bible for SC and the LSAT CR is the bible for CR as far as I know. I do not know of any such equivalent for RC.
