GMAT 640 ( Q47, V32 )

by gladi13 » Sun Apr 10, 2011 3:48 am
Hi Guys,

I scored 640 in GMAT - Quant: 47 , Verbal - 32, AWA : 4.5

Not so happy about it.Did well in practice tests but somehow lost concentration during verbal part of the exam.

I have 4 years of experience in software product development.

Is this score sufficient to clear the entry criteria for top B-Schools.
Now I am at cross roads in deciding whether to re-take GMAT.

I would be really grateful, if someone gives a broad picture of which schools in terms of world rankings I can apply.

Regards
VK

Hi,

First of all that score is not bad. But if you think you can improve. Go ahead.

The answers to the following questions will help you choose schools.

1) Where are you from?
2) Apart from work, what have you done.
3) What is your GPA?
4) What do you wanna do?
5) Do you have anything extra to claim in your profile? Like community leadership activities.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Hi,

Top B-schools need just 700+. For top B schools 790=780=750= 710=700+

700+ is just like a Gate pass, You can either enter for further tests or you cannot enter...
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..
Regards,
HSPA.

I kinda disagree. There have been many instances where students have been given waitlists because they think you need a better score. You can search on this forum and you will see there were a few cases where applicants were asked to improve their GMAT score.

700 NOT equal to 790. But yes, if you have a different profile, it helps.
For Eg. 700 with military background will find it easier than 700 with an Engineering background.
750 with engg background makes your application stronger.

At the same time, score is not a sufficient condition. It is like the first filter.

Another point is higher scores are used in 2 more scenarios:
1) Scholarships.

2) It helps in post MBA job scenario too. I have read an article right here on BTG about that. A year or so ago.
