Prep question

There is a triange ABC with a line BD that is perpendicular to AC on the xy plane, where AB=BC and AC= BD, and A= (-8,0) and C=(20,o) (What are the coordinates of point B in the xy plane?

A (6,12)
B (6, 28)
C (8,20)
D (12,20)
E (14, 28)

A (6,12)
B (6, 28)
C (8,20)

BD is the perpendicular bisector of line AC (as AB = BC).
So, D has a x co-ordinate of 6 (i.e. 20 - 28/2) and so does B.

Since BD = AC = 28 (20 - (-8 )) , B has a y co-ordinate of 28

I choose B (6,28 )

What is the OA ?

jc please remove smileys from the options so that it is easy to read them
I was stuck up bcos i didnt see any option with a 28 as y co-ordinate

It is actually a combination of 8 and ) that is causing this.

For example if you have 8 followed by ) you get "8)"

Maybe one can use 8-space-) to offset the smiley problem as in "8 )"
