Now check the picture. consider the first section and it says the board is cut at point A and B. It cuts at 45 degree at point A and vertical at point B. Note: both cut pieces are equal.

Now look at the picture.

1. Draw the line at the middle which split the board into two pieces of 60 in X 6 in each.
2. Now you have two right angle triangles formed.
3. one side of the (vertical side) of triangle is AZY is 3 in. (Half of the height).
4. Now you have a 45-45-90 triangle with one side ZY = 3 in and hence AY = 3 in.
5. Length AB is YB + AY = 60 in + 3 in = 5Ft 3in
YB = 60 in because you cut the board of width into two pieces.

Hope I am correct here.
