Which one of the following lists the number of points at which a circle can intersect a triangle?

1) 2 and 6
2) 2,4 and 6
3) 1,2,3 and 6 only
4) 1,2,3,4 and 6 only
5) 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 only

What does this question imply...This one is from the mock test series on mba.com

The ans is E
since in addition to what ajit has shown we could have a triangle side tangent to circle, it could intersect with a segment on one side and tangent to the second side and the same be extended to the third side

I am not quite sure whether a tangent intersects a circle, a debatable point !!!

well! there's some difference between "line intersects" and "line touches"

Tangent touches the circle and intersects its radius (not circle) at 90.

Answer should be B.

I agree with Johny, a tangent does not intersect a circle.

Well the OA guys is E....There is no explanation given in the mock test....Thanks ajith....that diagram clears a few things

Agree there. I did not consider that option, I was talking about tangents which is never intersected.In this case, eventhough the circle intersects two lines, the point coincides.

I think intersection should mean atleast one point and not greater than one point
Also if a line is intersecting radius then it should also intersect the circle

all right. I checked the exact definition of tangent.
In geometry: line that intersects the circle only once.
