Since key personal traits that make a good leader are formed during one's childhood and youth, formal training can only refine rather than cultivate true leaders
The issue at hand about leadership and leadership skills is a an important topic today in large corporate offices around the world. The skills which leaders are expected to have are ones those affect not only the people around him but also determines the effectiveness of the system he is a part of. Team Building , Communication , Decisiveness , Body Language and self compsure are some of the triats a sound leader posses and these arent which a person can learn in year or two with a formal training. These traits needs to inculcated from a very early age.
The primary reason I believe leadership skills needs to be learnt at an early age is attributed to the skills a leader needs to posses. A young kid quickly learns the essence of team building skills in his school games. Plays and shows in school give imbide skills such overcoming the fear to fail , body language and composure. Schools today put a lot of stake in extracircular activites. A person becomes extrovert in childhood not in later stages of life. We as child ,look around and learn to behave and socialize with other peple in our surroundings.
In addition, some of the enviornmental factors which people face while in childhood and youth shape their life and embides them with some skiils not many people have. Example of Mahatma Gandhiji , who was removed from a train carrying white passengers later descirbed the event as the most important influence on his future.
Althoug many might argue that skills such communication, body language , team building can be learnt in formal school, but I argue that these trainings might help to brush up the qualities but not create what we call true leaders. Over all a good business school pays a lot of attention to the aspirants extra circular activites and his leader ship skills before admitting him to the school.
In Sum, I think the leafderhip skills are best inculcated in early childhood and youth rather than later in life with formal trainings
