Help - GMAT in 15 days - My GPrep Scores!

by sophia08 » Mon Dec 01, 2008 10:03 am
Need some help and guidance...
I have been studying for around 2 months on and off and completed OG-11, supplements, Manhattan SC, Kap800 Q and other misc stuff...

I took Gprep 2wice and got:-
660 (q-48 - 10 mistakes, v-31 - 13 mistakes) and
670 (q-48 - 11 mistakes, v-32 - 14 mistakes)

The reason why I am worried and nervous at this point is that:-

1- although i saw a lot of questions in these 2 tests that were discussed on this forum in Quant and some in Verbal also...STILL...i JUST....JUST managed to score 660 and 670 ?? :( I wonder how BAD am i going to perform in the actual test.

2- time management - i ran out of time in Verbal on both the tests and I was like on Q-34 when I had just 3 mns left....THIS is like a nightmare! I guessed on last 6 questions and got 4 wrong in a row and 1 at the end :(

HELP:-
My D'day is in 15 days....Is there ANY POSSIBILITY that I could improve my speed and overall time management?

- What can I do for Quant?
- I have studied Manhattan SC book some 4 times but STILL get around 45% SC's wrong, then CR and RC are inconsistent.

Thank you All

First of all, I wouldn't use the word "only" with 670 or 680. That's nearly 90th percentile, meaing only 10% of test takers score that high!

As for improvement, your math is already quite high. With so little time left, I'd focus on verbal. SC tends to be the easiest for people to improve. Continue working problems, focusing on grammatical rules/takeaways that you can apply to future problems. GMAT grammar essentially boils down to only a handul of rules - you need to know those rules cold and be able to spot them in a sentence.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot Jim...

Any suggestions/strategies for:-

option1- improving my overall speed in verbal and better time management (if i extend my date by another 15 days to get 1 months time)

option2- no change in gmat date -> go ahead with the current speed (where i generally GUESS on last 6-7 questions) OR guess a whole RC passage (last one!) in middle and buy more time to finish the test on time without getting nervous and losing temper - calculated risk!!

AIM --> just to get 650+ in actual test!

I wouldn't advise guessing on an entire passage - long streaks of wrong answers hurt more than the same number of wrong answers spread throughout the test.

As for postponing, it's hard for me to tell you what to do. If you feel like you could improve significantly if you had another month to study, it's probably not a bad idea to postpone (although it will cost you something).

Good luck!

Cant give better advice than Jim!

One thing I would say is keep up your confidence. This means +some points on the REAL GMAT.

Focus on SC (Verbal) like Jim suggested and I am sure u can reach your 650+ score.

Good luck!
