Can you please explain why? I guess I am missing something in idiomatic expression and that's a pain on my cubicle bound life.

awarded the (with is not necessary) so eliminate A/B/C

In<due> recognition is correct
Long over due is just enhancing recognition and is an adjective.

the nations higest award is correc modifier for honour..

So IMO E,
