60 days until the GMAT and I need some encouragement

Well, I just scheduled my GMAT appointment for October 13, which gives me a little over 60 days to prepare -- I'm incredibly nervous! I'm currently going through the Knewton.com GMAT prep and MGMAT strategy guides and am even thinking about getting a tutor to help me with the QUANT section. Ya, my math skills are that bad.

Any tips for someone who's terrible at math and standardized tests? I know that there are 101+ 60-day study guides on this forum, but was wondering if someone who's mathematically challenged and not-so-good at standardized tests could give me insight into their prep.

Hey Nic,

To improve in GMAT math, you must take the time to master each topic (e.g., percents, ratios, exponents, statistics, etc.)

For each topic, you must:
1) Learn the underlying concepts (rules, attributes, notation, etc.)
2) Learn GMAT-specific strategies related to that topic
3) Practice dozens of questions all related to that one topic.
4) Don't stop working on that topic until you have mastered it

Then move on to the next topic.

Thanks, Brent -- you're absolutely right. I've mapped out my study times and scheduled practice tests over the course of the next 8 weeks.

You need to practice a lot as you are preparing for QUANT section. Ultimately mathematics is all about formulas so practice a lot you will automatically remember or get clue how to solve problems and stick to your schedule strictly.
