In a dilemma with 690

by raman84 » Fri Dec 19, 2008 1:41 am
Hi Guys,

This is my first post on this site but I have been constantly looking into all the forums especialy this forum since it is a source of inspiration for people like me.I want to Thank all you guys and also BTG for making such a wonderful site,

I just came back from my exam centre. My exam was at Chennai India.I scored 690 (Q48,V36).
Do not know its a good score or a bad score.I never got a 690 in any of the tests I gave.Following are the tests I gave:
MGMAT(free) 610
Gmat prepI(first time)630
Gmat prep II (first time) 630
GMAT prep I(second time) 610
GMAT prep II (second time) 610
Kaplan (Internet)650
Princeton(free) 650
Today i got 690 which was amazing considering my past performances but, there was a reason for my low score in tests I do not know why but i was never able to hold my patience and I always pressed panicked button. In all the exams I gave before(mock) completed QA section 40 minutes before and VA section around 30 minutes before the allocated time. But, today I do not know what happened the paper was a bit legnthy it seems  ,I was able to complete both sections on time(there was a bit of panick in VA as I got 4th RC passage at Ques NO.31),But Still I managed to get a 690 (somehow). Now I do not know if this score is sufficient or not to get an admission.I have applied to following colleges:
NYU(Stern)
Darden(University of virginia)
UCLA(Andresin)
Ross(University of michigan)
MIT (Sloan).

I have not given a toefl yet so I will be applying in Aug 2009 but since MIT(Sloan) doesn not require TOEFL I think I can apply for second round.I have around 2 and a half years of experience in Indian IT industry and a have a bit of extra curricular.

I want to know applying with 690 will be ok or should i go for GMAT one more time to get 700+ score.
I also want to know what are my chances of acceptance by any of the schools I have applied for(since i think 690 is less)?

Please guide/mentor.

I would not TOUCH gmat again if you were scoring 610-30 in your practice tests...690 is good enough for ANY Schools if your profile can back up your score. A good score will not get you in an MBA program but a bad score can put you out of the game. In your case, GMAT is not an issue for you anymore. Good luck with your applications.

Logitech,
thanks for the advice. But do you think that my score will be competitive enough with a guy who has applied to the same university as me and has a 720 score(say).Do you think that I have any chance before him??

Go to the student profiles of the following schools:

NYU(Stern)
Darden(University of virginia)
UCLA(Andresin)
Ross(University of michigan)
MIT (Sloan).

and see whether you fit in them. Also you can have a sense of your competition if you follow the businessweek forum page.
