this year than last

hi all

is the following sentence correct?

the profit is expected to be higher this year than last.

one does not have to repeat year at the end of the sentence?

i think its not correct

year should be used in the end of sentence

the profit is expected to be higher this year than last year.

look at OG SC 93:

Heating-oil prices are expected to be higher this year than last because refiners....

so it seems to be correct!?
