.. let the tire weigh 100 kilos .. so the tread would weigh 40 kilos.. now over a lifetime this 40 kilos of tread losses 50% of its weight .. so that would mean the tread would weigh 20 kilos after a lifetime of use .. so we have 60 kilos of tyre and 20 kilos of tread after .. so we have in all 80 kilos .. and the tread would make up 20/80 * 100 % = 25% of that weight ..
