what happened????

by bigtreezl » Thu Sep 18, 2008 4:49 pm
I just got back fron taking the GMAT. Scored 480 after studying hard for three months ;(
that is lower than I scored on my very first practice test.

here are my practice test scores

mgmat free practice: 490
mgmat 1: 580
mgmat 2: 610
mgmat 3: 640
mgmat 4: 580
gmat prep 1: 640
gmat prep 2: 670

Im really depressed right now and in a state of dis beleif. I was certain I would hit my mark of at least 590.
Is the GMAT changing? Ive noticed that alot of people here are compalining that their actual scores are much lower than their practice scores.

I was afraid of that to. I never scored over a 650 on a practice test. But somehow I managed to score 690 (48Q and 35V) last week. The highest I ever got on a practice test for quant was 42. I don't know what happened, I took it once and freaked and from what it looks like you have the skill to get a high score. Waht people dont talk about is that 70% of the score is being able to keep your head intact while in the test. Thats more than people realize. However, that just requires mental prep just as much as you need to study verbal and quant.

weird thing is I didnt feel nervous and the test felt the same as the practice tests. I was expecting to see at least a 600. If I dont know what I did wrong then how can I improve? Oh yeah..and I've exhausted my study material. I am in need of some really good advice

after reading the posts on this site, i think the test may be getting more difficult for mid level scorers, what do you all think? I just got off the phone with the folks at GMAC...they said that the GMATprep software scores are not indicative of the real test. The software is meant only to give test takers a feel for the test. I guess that was my mistake for using GMAtprep tool improperly.

anyhow..back to the drawing board!
