40 students take a test which is graded out of 100 marks. What is the average score on the test?
(1) Half the students score above 50 marks and the remaining score below 50 marks.
(2) The sum of the scores of all the students taken together is 2000.

Average score on the test = Total marks of all students / no. of students
No. of students = 40
Let us assume that total marks of all students = T

(1) Half the students score above 50 marks and the remaining score below 50 marks does not give us the total marks of all students; NOT sufficient.

(2) The sum of the scores of all the students taken together is 2000 implies the average score on the test = 2000/40; SUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is B.
