Hi everyone-
I took the GMAT last October and was completely disappointed with my score (490).
Let me give you a quick intro to my situation at the time. I graduated with a 3.73 with a bachelors in business admin. When I bagan studying for the GMAT I was doing my second consecutive internship at a fed agency in DC. My logic was that in case I did not get a job offer afterwads I could go on directly to business school. I know I did not place as much importance as i should have in my studies. For example, I only studied for 6 weeks befoe the test and only used the PR Cracking the GMAT 2009 and Math Start (PR). At the time, I was unsure of what I really wanted to study and considered school my "safety net." I did use the software offered from GMAC but only for the two tests. I think my highest score was a 580, so I knew I was not get a "high" score. However, I would have been happy with my 580. Truth is during the test I was super nervous and ended up running out of the time to even guess some of the last questions...it was that bad.
After all, I did receive a job offer and have continued to work in the same agency. I also applied to business school at UNM (not a fancy school at all), and they decided to waive the GMAT requirement (due to my GPA). I did get in, but I opted to defer my admission...safety net I guess. Now that I have done more research, I know I do not want to go to UNM or any other similar school! I feel like I sold myself short as an undergrad and I will not do the same thing again.
BU has an awesome international mba program that I am really looking into. The average GMAT score is 620, but they have also admitted applicants with a 550. I was getting 550-580 when I was first studying for the test last year, so this time I am definitely shooting for something higher...maybe a 650?? Is that even possible..from 490 to 650??
I have already started studying for the test again and this time I will buy the OG!! I was also lucky enough to find this site a couple of days ago and I have already found tons of resources....including the flashcards. One particular thing I have trouble with is SC. I am not a native English speaker so many times after I read the question I have no clue what it is actually asking! Does anybody know of any good verbal practice guides??
Any comments/support/ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
