Knocking the dust off - Help needed!

by mra101810 » Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:48 pm
Hello everyone,

Hoping for some advice to put together a reasonable study plan. My goal is a 600-650 (looking at some evening mba programs). Took the gmat in 2004 and didn't fare to well (500: 29Q, 33V), and never pursued a program. Have been out of school for 11yrs now, and I'm ready to give this test/mba goal another try. I work full time and would like to take the test in late 2010/early 2011. I'm hoping to put a couple hrs per day into my preparation. I previously reviewed a kaplan book in 2004, but I blame myself for lack of effort in my prep. I would like to self-study and I'm looking for some books/resources that will give me the biggest bang for my buck. After researching this site and talking to some previous successful test-takers, my plan is to pick up the official guide for gmat review, 12th edition (red), and possibly the og quant and verbal books (green and purple). I'm considering the 8 manhattan strategy guides as well, but want to be realistic with how much time I will have to prepare (with work & family life). Any suggestions (books/online resources)would be greatly appreciated as I have not purchased any study materials yet - and if you have any recommendations on my study prep, I'd gladly take any advice. Thanks in advance!

Matt

The OG books are great for practice questions but they don't give the best answers and they don't really talk about underlying theory. You should definitely go for some theory books and the OG books. I like the Manhattan series although there are some other choices. In general though, you'll need to go through several theory books. Out of the Manhattan series I think the SC book is their best
