HBS Question 4

Hi,

So I submitted my HBS app in Round 1. For my response to Question 4, I unknowingly put something very similar to another top school's question; I did not learn about it until after I submitted the application. Could this be viewed as a bad thing by the admissions committee (laziness on my part etc.) and is it likely to affect the overall outcome of my application?

Well, if the story makes you look good, and is using the best story it could and doesn't have the word "Stanford" in it, there's no reason you shouldn't use it. Although originality is a helpful characteristic, it doesn't mean that "coming up with the most original question in the world" is what will get you in.

What I perceive is that, it would not affect at all. Yes the name as we know would be a problem but for all theoretical and admittance purposes, your essay in any case would have been similar/same. You didnt do any mistake. Many people do so and get in. I hope your story inspires both the AdComs

@throughmba: I didn't mention any school's name (in fact, I had come up with it independently and only learned about it only after submitting my app!). I also thought that the essay rounded out my app nicely. I guess I should be OK then. Thanks for all your help!

@PrecisionEssay: Yes, I thought the story was quite good. And no, the essay question was not from Stanford! Thanks for your input!
