The commission acknowledged that no amount of money or staff members can ensure the safety of people who live in the vicinity of a nuclear plant, but it approved the installation because it believed that all reasonable precautions had been taken.
(A) no amount of money or staff members
(B) neither vast amounts of money nor staff members
(C) neither vast amounts of money nor numbers of staff members
(D) neither vast amounts of money nor a large staff
(E) no matter how large the staff or how vast the amount of money

IMO it is C.

the sentence should have both number of staff and amount of money.

IMO "C" can not be the answer as it contains "numbers of"....which is always wrong in GMAT.

I'll go with B

(A) no amount of money or staff members
(amount of staff members?)
(B) neither vast amounts of money nor staff members
POE
(C) neither vast amounts of money nor numbers of staff members
(numbers of is incorrect)
(D) neither vast amounts of money nor a large staff
(large staff seems incorrect)
(E) no matter how large the staff or how vast the amount of money
(too wordy)

experts please give you opinion on this.

in D x and y have same structure adjective+noun.

amounts is plural of amount

It is not at all awkward to say large staff..
staff serves as a collective noun, i suppose, as 'large' modifies it correctly here

Does it mean that "staff members" as in "A", "B" and "C" is redundant and can be kicked out on the basis of redundancy too ?

or I am making too much out of staff :-)

In A and B, if amount intends to modify staff, then it is wrong
E is too wordy, that is why i rejected it when compared to D

not sure of redundancy part

lacks counter for "staff members"

"staff" lacks "large quantity" qualifier analogous to "vast amounts"
(D) neither vast amounts of money nor a large staff
has "large quantity" for both money and staff
(E) no matter how large the staff or how vast the amount of money
"no matter" clashes with "can"

My answer: D

A and B are ruled out because "amount of staff" is wrong. The quantity should agree with the noun here. "Staff" acts as a collective noun and large seems to correctly qualify here.E can not be used in the sentence if because it is succeeded by " can ensure...". So ruled out.Neither X nor y is correctly followed in D and hence it should be the choice.
