If A travels 3 miles per hour, and B travels 1/3 faster than or greater than A. What is the B's miles per hour? I know the answer but could anyone explain the math behind the answer, which is 4?

Thanks

B = 4/3 A (1/3 faster is 4/3)
= 4/3*3= 4

hope its clear...

Hi ..

Assume A travels at xkm/hr....
B travels 1/3rd faster than A i.e (As spped + (1/3)As speed )
=4/3(As speed)
=(4/3)*3 =4

Hope this clear..

How did you get 4/3 as A's speed? Can you explain?

Thanks

4/3 is not A's speed, its (4/3)*A's speed

if A's speed is 3 miles/hr, and B's speed is 1/3 faster than A's speed.

Then B's speed is (1+1/3) of A's speed

4/3 * (A's speed) = 4 miles/hr

Hope its clear.

Thanks guys for your help.

I'll just want to recap on it to see if i understood it correctly.

If A's speed is 3 miles per hour and B's speed is 1/3 greater than A.
Then assuming if A's speed was 1 Then B's speed would be 1+1/3 = 4/3
But for A's speed=3 then B's speed would be 4/3*3 = 4.

Is that right?
