A certain 4-liter solution of vinegar and water consists of x liters of vinegar and y liters of water. How many liters of vinegar does the solution contain?

(1) x/4 = 3/8
(2) y/4 = 5/8

X+Y=4
So we have to calculate X and Y
st.1: we get X hence Y
st.2: we get Y hence X

IMO D because you can solve each equation for the variable nad then plug into the original question

The OA is D.
Important pt. to note:-As x an y are complimentary,so in such questions knowing one variable is sufficient to solve the question.

In haste ,one can write insufficient in both the statements alone as only one variable is given.
It is very important thereby to read the question carefully.
