HI vivek2006in,

There are two resources that almost all Test Takers use (and they come from the Official Test Maker):

1) The GMAC Official Guide 13th Edition (or the GMAT2015 - they're the same book).
2) The 2 free practice CAT tests and practice problems that can be downloaded from www.mba.com

With a Test Date in June, you've given yourself plenty of time to study. Most Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) on their studies to hit their "peak" scores. You'll probably need more than just the resources that I mentioned, but we'll have a better idea of your strengths and weaknesses once you take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT (a CAT takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time before you take it).

As Rich points out, it's important to take a practice test early in one's studies. In fact, in BTG's 60-Day study guide, students are directed to take a full-length practice test on Day 3 (once you've familiarized yourself with the GMAT).

Hi Vivek,

You can refer to the Official Guide for GMAT Review, the Official Guide Quant Review and Official Guide Verbal Review.You can purchase the Question Pack, which will provide you with new questions and increased computer-based functionality.To crack GMAT, you also need to buy strategy guides if you don't have one.

As have five months to prepare for your GMAT, we would advice you to follow the below steps to score well in your GMAT exam.

1. Start with a mock test. This will help you identify your strong and weak areas
2. If you plan to do self study, get your hands on the best preparatory material available in the market. You can speak to your seniors, get feedback on forums like pagalguy to seek out the best in the market
3. Joining a coaching institute or a study group is recommended because it gives a structure to your preparation and keeps you motivated all the time. Remember cracking GMAT is not just about working hard but working smart as well
4. Make a study time table for yourself that suits you best. You can start with spending 2 hours every day and as you move closer to your test date, start increasing your study hours
5. Keep taking mock tests in real test taking situations. However, more important than taking a mock test is to analyse your performance in the same. If you spend 2 hours on a mock test, spend 6 hours in analysing the same.
6. Figure out ways by which you can continuously keep improving your score
7. Make sure you stay consistent with your schedule. This is extremely important

Hi Vivek,

Definitely the OG and the GMATPrep's are key, but it's also going to be SUPER important to identify your strengths and weaknesses as you go. I HIGHLY recommend you take one practice test each week and do a detailed error log for it, focusing on exactly WHY you're getting certain questions wrong, and WHAT you can adjust so that you get future similar questions correct. I'd also focus heavily on MGMAT's practice books, and either MGMAT or Veritas Prep's practice CATs.

Hi Vivian,

Need a piece of advice - Self study(online course) is better or joining classroom training? Given the fact i am working and could be able to spare time only during weekends. Also, if one has to start from scratch OG should be good enough for covering the basics or is there any book you would recommend?

I think you will find a lot of great resources on here -- I'll confidently suggest that it is worth you checking out our ManhattanPrep offering here (https://www.manhattanprep.com/gre/programs/self-study/).

Beyond that, what I will suggest to you -- more than anything else -- is being truly committed to a study plan. It's often the number one make or break factor for self-study students.

Hi Hanish_Satija,

There are many benefits to enrolling in a GMAT Course of some type (whether Guided Self-Study or Instructor-Led), as opposed to just trying to work through a series of books. Since Instructor-Led Courses only occur at certain times, you might find it more beneficial to use a Self Study Course - in that way, you can study when your schedule allows, at your own pace and in the 'volume' that you choose.

The OG books are great sources for practice questions (so you should absolutely use at least the OG13/GMAT2015 - they're the same book), but they're not designed to teach you tactics or patterns and they certainly won't teach you the secrets of the GMAT. Some Test Takers score really well with just books, but it's a relatively small percentage.

The average preparation for a competitive score on the GMAT test is 3 or 4 months but it not only dependent on the study time what it is more important is to choose a good study material for your self-preparation.

We suggest two options:
1)GMAT Official Guide edition 15th pack of 11 adaptive tests and strategies. You can get it in www.gmatbarcelona.com
2)Online GMAT course by www.gmatonline.es

A competitive score should not be less than 650/70. You need a good study material to get it because GMAT test evaluates your reasoning and problem solving skills rather than your "knowledge" although the concepts are relatively easy especially in the math section.

Honestly, I think that your first question is one that is truly going to vary 'case by case.' Are you someone that generally does well when you are managing at your own pace, etc? Or do you like the accountability/interaction with instructors and other students?
