Doubt on usage of Like..

by SUHAILK » Mon Jul 04, 2011 11:46 pm
Like a post-colonial Philip Roth, his semi-autobiographical novels and screenplays revealed something harsher and raunchier about growing up in London in the 1970s and '80s.

I was reading an article on Economist today (https://www.economist.com/blogs/prospero ... ve-writing)...and came across this sentence ...and i feel that here author compares Philip Roth and other author's novels but instead he should be comparing Philip Roth's novel...

Is this usage incorrect or I am missing something here.....

Good point.
Even i feel that it should use some work of roth to compare with his novels.
Or after roth, he should immediately mention the author and then his work.

Let's wait for some expert comment.
