770 in gmat....no idead about admissions :(

by deepak s » Wed Sep 05, 2012 8:41 pm
Hello,
I just got 770 in gmat.A lot of people have given me different opinions about when to apply to b-schools. I have no work experience and am a computer science engineer from a good school in india.I want to get into one of the top 20 b-schools.Some counsellors say many good b-schools ask for a fresh score,so i should apply now.One counsellor told me i could only get a school as good as rochester simon, and even work experience would provide me little advantage since i belong to a typical IT background.Rochester is ranked 50th . What should i do?

You haven't given us much information in your profile, but I think you should work for at least two years and see where your passions lie and what you want to do. Your biggest barrier right now is that MBA programs are rarely interested in students fresh out of university. A GMAT score is good for 5 years and your counselors who said school prefer fresh scores are pretty off. The point is that you have an amazing score and now they will want to see if you have an equally outstanding personality, leadership potential, and ambition, which you need to show through promotions, interesting work, and extracurriculars.
Blogging about the MBA application process. Because I need to do something with all this bschool energy.

Dude, you have a GREAT AMAZING GMAT. Don't ruin your chances by applying too early. Work for three years. There's a whole universe of jobs out there, and stuff for you to learn and discover. In three years you will likely be a pretty strong to very strong candidate, and you will be a good option for the best Bschools in the world.
